SVFCU Giving Back this Holiday Season
The holidays are filled with celebrations, friends, family, and giving. At Susquehanna Valley Federal Credit Union, we love when we get the opportunity to partner with local groups that impact our community. There are so many ways to give back. Some people get directly involved with the charity work and donate their time, while others choose to make a monetary donation. Regardless of the way in which you decide to give back, we are proud that the SVFCU family is made up of individuals like you who make giving back a priority. Here are a few of the organizations we have the privilege of partnering with throughout the year.
Central PA Food Bank
Central PA Food Bank focuses on fighting hunger, improving lives, and strengthening communities. With two central hubs located in Harrisburg and Williamsport, they aim to reduce hunger in 27 counties across Pennsylvania. There are various ways to get involved with the Food Bank, such as donating or volunteering with family, friends, coworkers, or as an individual. To learn more, visit their website.
Ecumenical Food Pantry
Another local charity that handles food distribution is the Ecumenical Food Pantry. They provide food to help meet the emergency needs of people in the greater Harrisburg area. Operated and staffed fully by volunteers, there are three main ways to get involved: serving as a receptionist, packer, or food team member. Learn more about their volunteer opportunities here.
Goldheart Golden Retriever Rescue
This establishment rescues unwanted, abused, neglected and displaced golden retrievers. There is a plethora of ways to volunteer and get all of your golden furry dreams met! Whether you foster a dog, help fundraise, run transportation, coordinate events, advertise, conduct home visits, or evaluate dogs, you will be meeting a need and helping our community’s furry friends!
Mission Central’s goal is to connect God’s resources with human need. They do this through three areas of focus: mission outreach, mission education, and disaster response. This is another ministry that provides plenty of volunteer opportunities. Examples of volunteer work include general warehouse labor, assembling UMCOR Kits, taking inventory, assorting donated materials, and conducting building maintenance. New Hope Ministries
New Hope Ministries serves neighbors in times of need and supports their efforts toward stability. They provide various programs that target food and basic needs, stability and work force development, and youth achievement. If you are interested in volunteering with New Hope Ministries, you can learn more about them here.
We are excited for all the things that the holidays bring. Giving back and pouring into our own community is one of our favorite parts!
